The Cactus League games end on March 28th, 2013 for the Colorado Rockies, giving them a couple of days to get their heads into the regular season. Beginning on April 1st, the Rockies will be back at Coors Field to strut their stuff and show fans in Denver what they've been working on in the Arizona desert.
Many players are back from last year, with a few new faces sprinkled in. Based on the happenings in Arizona, it looks like the Colorado Rockies will learn from their previous season, make a few adjustments, and move forward.
The StartersWith a bulk of the guys on the Colorado Rockies team returning for the 2013 season, looking at their numbers from last year, coupled with their reputations, I predict the following to be true about the Colorado Rockies starting lineup.
#1 - Dexter Fowler - Center Field - Leading off
#2 - Josh Rutledge - Second Base
#3 - Carlos Gonzalez - Left Field
#4 - Troy Tulowitzki - Shortstop - Cleaning up
#5 - Todd Helton - First Base
#6 - Michael Cuddyer - Right Field
#7 - Wilin Rosario - Catcher
#8 - Jordan Pacheco - Third Base (Toss up between Pacheco and Chris Nelson)
Even though the Colorado Rockies were injury-laden during the 2012 season, it really came down to poor pitching that hindered their progress. There were many games the Rockies could have won that were lost because of a lack of consistent pitchers.

There is a strong group of guys coming off the bench on the Colorado Rockies' active roster. They have stepped up to the plate many times and come in to do what they needed to do to get the job done. These players include:
- Tyler Corbin
- Eric Young, Jr. - Walt Weiss has actually started Young, Jr. in the lead-off position during spring training
- Jonathan Herrera
- Charlie Blackmon - played very well upon his return from injury at the end of last season
- Nolan Arenado - a new addition to the team who has been lighting up spring training
- DJ LeMaheiu
- Ramon Hernandez
- Yorvit Torrealba - back with the Colorado Rockies for a second time
Backing up the starting pitchers are a bunch of guys who have played with the Colorado Rockies for a while. Without as many wins as they would have liked in 2012, the Rockies' bullpen is ready for a new year, hoping to see better results for 2013. Sitting in the bullpen will be:
- Raphael Betancourt - closer extraordinaire with 32 saves in 2012
- Matt Belisle - the reliever with the best record in 2012 with four wins and two losses
- Rex Brothers
- Edgmer Escalona
- Christian Friedrich
- Josh Outman
- Tyler Chatwood
Other, less familiar players are currently vying for positions. The Colorado Rockies just cut five more players as Opening Day nears. On 3/15/13, Ryan Wheeler, Josh Sullivan, Tim Wheeler, Will Harris, and Joe Gardner were sent down I-25 to Colorado Springs and the minor leagues. Soon, Walt Weiss will have to make a tough decision - who will start for the Colorado Rockies?
Who do you think will start for the Mile High Ball Club?
