Carlos Gonzalez: A Colorado Rockies Superstar

Carlos Gonzales has finally found his groove this season and continues to keep up his pace in grand style.  He started off the season hitting well below .300, but as of today, is a hair over at .302.  On May 14, he was five for five at bat, with two homeruns in the mix.  This year, he has hit the ball out of the park nine times, with 22 runs batted in.

Gonzalez is in his fifth year with the Colorado Rockies and, along with Troy Tulowitzki, carries the team to winning seasons.  He has become a major icon, sharing the outfield with Dexter Fowler and whoever Walt Weiss feels like putting out in right field.  Most of the time, Carlos can be found covering left field.

Carlos Eduardo Gonzalez was born on October 17, 1985 in Maracaibo, Zulia, Venezuela.  Known as CarGo by his fans, Gonzalez is starting his sixth year in the major leagues.  He spent his first major league year with the Oakland Athletics before getting traded to the Colorado Rockies, along with Huston Street and Greg Smith for Matt Holliday.

His Earlier Years
Carlos' older brother, Euro, Jr. was his mentor and inspiration in baseball.  Euro, Jr., eleven years older than Carlos, realized his younger brothers potential and turned his attention away from himself to support his sibling.  Using limbs snapped off trees, Euro Jr. helped Carlos develop his skills that eventually brought him to the United States and Major League Baseball.

Initially brought into American baseball by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2003, Carlos Gonzalez spent his first few years in the minors floating between leagues.  Even though he earned a ranking in Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects in 2006, Carlos was still too rough around the edges to move onto the next level of play.  In December, 2008, Gonzales was part of a large trade package which landed him in Oakland.

Colorado Rockies Superstar
In 2009, Carlos Gonzalez found himself in a Colorado Rockies uniform.  As part of the Mile High Crew, Carlos has been recognized as one of the top Major League baseball players.  His accomplishments with the Colorado Rockies include:
